The Census Bureau has proposed important reforms to the 2030 Census. The proposal advances much of the Center for Renewing America’s work to de-weaponize the Census and restore the “actual Enumeration” to its constitutional purpose.
Citizens for Renewing America encourages you to submit your own comment in support of the proposed rule.
CRA submitted a formal comment strongly supporting the rule and urging the Census Bureau to continue its reforms. CRA supports:
- Ending differential privacy. Protect Census accuracy by rejecting statistical noise and other methods that intentionally alter published population data.
- Restoring the Census to its constitutional purpose. The “actual Enumeration” determines political representation, and the accuracy of that count must come first.
- Restoring meaning to residence. Physical presence alone should not determine residence; legal status and an enduring connection to the United States matter.
- Putting representation before other statistical objectives. Demographic and statistical purposes should never distort population counts used for apportionment and redistricting.
- Separating the Census from ordinary “statistical products.” A constitutional enumeration that determines representation is different from estimates, projections, and other government statistics.
